'Abhishek Bachchan excels in silent close-ups'

'Abhishek Bachchan excels in silent close-ups'

For those who have seen Sarkar , will most probably agree with the fact that Abhishek Bachchan excels in silent close-ups – a quality that Ram Gopal Varma has brought to the fore.

Recently, Abhishek took a day off from his hectic schedule to do some additional shooting for Varma's Sarkar Raj before he flew off to Miami to join Karan Johar 's Dostana .

According to Varma, "There were a few vital close-ups of Abhishek that I wanted to add to the film, so before anyone jumps to the conclusion that I re-shot my film, let me quickly clear the air. I think Abhishek excels in silent close-ups. Not too many actors of his generation know how to hold silences on camera. I made him do that in Naach . And I just thought a few tight close-ups would add to the drama in Sarkar Raj."

Varma added that Abhishek has given yet another riveting performance in ‘Sarkar Raj’ after Guru .

"I wouldn't even compare the two performances on any level except that intensity that Abhishek brings to both the roles. Abhishek and Aishwarya in ‘Sarkar Raj’ will be very different from ‘Guru’. And if you ask me, he has gone far beyond what he did in ‘Sarkar’."

‘Sarkar Raj’, that also stars Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, has Ash playing a manipulative and ruthless businesswoman who doesn’t care to bend the rules to make money from the people.

On the other hand, Abhishek’s character has shades of philanthropy. He, too, makes money, but for the people and not from them.

This basic ideological polarity is the difference between Ash and Abhishek in ‘Sarkar Raj’. Their characters are antagonistic to each other before their conflict takes a different turn and transforms into subdued romance.

Varma says ‘Sarkar Raj’ is a bigger film than its prequel. The movie doesn’t carry the old story forward, but takes a look at another episode in the Nagare family’s life.

Aish-Abhi feud?

Aish-Abhi feud?

Areeee.. why are you upset? We are talking about the roles that this hubby-wife have got to play in RGV's 'Sarkar' sequel 'Sarkar Raj' that will see Big B, Junior Bachchan and the Bachchan bahu being cast in lead roles. Though is film has been forecast as a sequel to its previous 'Sarkar' this film is huge when compared to the budget and the star cast of its predecessor.

This is the first film that will be releasing for Abhi after his marriage with Aish and what is very interesting is that in this flick the Abhi-Aish character has been dealt with as 'diametrically opposite' from each other. Aishwarya Rai plays a hardcore business woman who has her own rules for getting things done her way with no compromise whatsoever.

It will really be interesting to see this romantic couple on and off screen being hitched opposite each other, for all the fans. But we had some news doing the rounds a few days back that 'Sarkar Raj' will not be released as scheduled in May and might get delayed because Bachchan senior was not really happy with some scenes involving Abhi after he saw the rushes. Since this is the first film that is going to release for Abhishek after his marriage, Big B had asked the director RGV to redo some scenes involving him and Abhi.

But Ram Gopal Varma, the director of 'Sarkar Raj' has reportedly quashed all such rumors and has confirmed that the film will hit theatres in May.

We guess the real life couple pitting against each other in reel life will be quite a watch!

Big B to play Abhishek's grandpa

Big B to play Abhishek's grandpa

Amitabh Bachchan will be seen playing Abhishek Bachchan’s grandfather in director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s film Dilli 6 .

Abhishek Bachchan may not have liked the idea of playing the younger Big B in Shoojit Sircar’s in-the-making film ‘Shoebite’, but the senior Bachchan has happily agreed to act in Mehra’s semi-autobiographical flick starring Abhishek and Sonam Kapoor in lead roles.

The film has Amitabh and Waheeda Rahman playing grandparents of the character played by Abhishek.

Big B and Waheeda ji have worked together in a number of films in the 70s and 80s, and ‘Dilli 6’ marks their coming together after a long gap of about 25 years.

Mehra, who is extremely fond of Waheeda ji (she was also part of his Rang De Basanti ), reportedly wanted her only to play the role of Abhi’s grandma.

Reports say that the two senior actors have already shot a few portions of the film in Rajasthan.

Speculation rife about Mani Ratnam's next hero

Speculation rife about Mani Ratnam's next hero

Bollywood's casting pundits are busy speculating about Mani Ratnam's second hero for his new movie starring Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. It is an intense love story.

The rumour that actor Ranbir Kapoor will be a part of the cast has triggered the guessing game. "We've no idea where all the speculation started, or what it means. Ranbir doesn't feature in the cast of Mani's film at all," said a source close to the project.

The source added: "There is another male lead required in this Abhishek-Ash love story. But it must be someone older than Abhishek. So, it cannot be Ranbir."

Could it be Madhavan, who has done five films with the Tamil filmmaker?

Madhavan denies the rumour. "No. I'm certainly not a part of Mani sir's new film. He hasn't asked me and I wouldn't be able to do it even if he does because I've no dates from September when he shoots his Hindi film."

Is Madhavan disappointed that Mani Ratnam has switched favourites? "Not at all!" Madhavan laughs. "Mani and I have done five films together. He needs to work with other actors. And I need to look at other directors."

Relax! Nothing is wrong between us

Relax! Nothing is wrong between us

Valentine's Day didn't turn out the way Bollywood's most romantic couple had planned.

Aishwarya Rai had hoped to have her husband Abhishek by her side for the lavish premiere of Jodhaa-Akbar. He arrived at the tail-end of the event on Thursday night.

Eyebrows were raised and the hush-hush whispers started when the Queen of the evening showed up with her in- laws Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan. But no Abhishek.

Relax! It was only a delayed flight. Abhishek arrived in Mumbai almost at midnight. All Valentinian plans laid to rest.

Aishwarya is as usual uncomplaining. "What a wonderful Valentine's gift. Everyone who has seen Jodhaa-Akbar so far feels it's the perfect love story. And it doesn't really matter if Abhishek couldn't make it. For us every day is Valentine's Day. Every time we're together it's Valentine's Day."

She admits find time to spend together is a problem.

"His schedules are grueling and so are mine. We're trying to spend as much time together as possible.Whenever I've time off I join him wherever he's shooting. I've been in Jaipur where he's been shooting in the last few months. We make time.

We find time for one another. We need to be happy with whatever is available. Just how happy or unhappy we make the situation is entirely in our hands."

For the Delhi premiere of Jodhaa-Akbar on Friday, Abhishek was right there by his wife's side, before flying back to Jaipur to join Rakeysh Mehra's Dilli 6 unit.

In Delhi Abhishek, Aishwarya and Hrithik were an inseparable threesome, laughing joking and enjoying the success of the venture, and never mind if Abhishek was only a vicarious participant in this lavish venture.

Aishwarya, Amitabh, Jaya join Abhishek Bachchan in Jaipur on his birthday

Aishwarya, Amitabh, Jaya join Abhishek Bachchan in Jaipur on his birthday

The Bachchan family has gathered at a farm house in Jaipur to celebrate Abhishek Bachchan's 32nd birthday. This is Abhishek's first birthday following his marriage to Aishwarya.

Abhishek is currently in Jaipur filming for Dilli-6. Aishwarya Rai is reported to have flown in on Monday, February 4.

Amitabh Bachchan took time off from the filming of Shoojit Sircar's Shoe Bite in the freezing environs of Shimla to be with his son.

Also joining the Bachchans is family friend and Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh.

The Pink City of Jaipur likely holds fond memories for both Abhishek and Aishwarya since it was here, during the filming of JP Dutta's Umrao Jaan, that their love blossomed.

Two years ago, on his 30th birthday, Abhishek had gone public with his romance with Aishwarya and the couple had danced with joy to the heady tune of 'Kajra re'.

The Bachchans coming together as a family also assumes significance in view of the recent attack on their house in Mumbai.

Motorcycle borne miscreants threw glass bottles at the gates of their residence o early on Monday morning.

The incident is said to have taken place hours after activists of the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) clashed with each other throughout Sunday.

The Raj Thackeray-led MNS has been targeting north Indian migrants living in the metropolis.

A high school in the name of Aishwarya Rai

A high school in the name of Aishwarya Rai

Today, Bollywood mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan is all set to open a high school for girls in Barabanki district in the name of his gorgeous daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Bachchan seems to be giving a new twist to his intention of buying land after the Allahabad High Court decided to condone the alleged fraud and forgery through which 2.5 bighas (about 70,000 sq ft) of government land was allotted to him during the Mulayam Singh Yadav regime. The court had cancelled that allotment last year.

Now Bachchan has bought some land from private farmers in Barabanki district's Daulatpur village, about 40 km from state capital Lucknow, on which he is setting up a high school for girls.

Bachchan professes that his sole intention in buying land was to build an educational institution.

Today, he is to lay the foundation stone for the school to be named after his daughter-in-law Ash.

Hectic preparations are on at the 10-bigha plot that Big B recently purchased from different farmers in Daulatpur village to build what has been christened the 'Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Girls Intermediate College', a school for higher secondary students.

Bachchan has never explained what attracted him to Barabanki - a place with which he does not have even a remote connection.

Why Bachchan changed his original plan of naming the school after his eminent poet father, the late Harivansh Rai Bachchan, is not known either.

Bachchan is to be accompanied by wife Jaya Bachchan , son Abhishek Bachchan and Ash.

To add political spice to the show, there will be Bachchan family friend Amar Singh, the Samajwadi Party general secretary who was instrumental in getting Bachchan the earlier government land allotment in violation of laws.

Abhishek is joru ka ghulaam?

Abhishek is joru ka ghulaam?A wife keeps nagging all the time for not giving her enough time is a complaint which every husband will have. But if you are Abhishek Bachchan, you’ll beg to differ. After all who wouldn’t want to spend time with Aishwarya Rai? Abhishek has apparently budged to Ash’s plea so much so that he has done it at the expense of delaying his films!

According to our inside sources, the first agenda of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Dilli 6 which is being shot in Jaipur is running behind schedule. There have been quite a number of reasons for the same. Firstly, it was because leading man Abhishek Bachchan’s grandmother Teji Bachchan passed away and then the same happened when leading lady Sonam Kapoor’s grandmother expired as well.

Of course nothing could have been done to avoid the inevitable. But there is another reason why Dilli 6 is struggling to complete its first schedule on time in Jaipur and that is because of the presence of Aishwarya Rai on the sets of the film.

Says a source closely associated with the film, “Abhishek Bachchan never gives his takes on time because he is always preoccupied with Aishwarya. His early morning shots are never taken before afternoon and veteran actors like Prem Chopra have to wait for him. Aishwarya has no reason to be on the sets which is clearly causing delay in an already delayed schedule.”

Moving away from Dilli 6 , it has come to our notice that Ram Gopal Varma’s Sarkar Raaj has also been delayed. The film which was expected to hit the screen in March has now been postponed to June.

Just to refresh your memory, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya along with Amitabh Bachchan comprise of the cast of Sarkar Raaj . We seriously wonder whether Ramu is facing this ordeal for the same reasons! Aishwarya Rai has finished her portions for Pink Panther 2 and Jodhaa Akbar and is free at the moment.

It may be recalled that Hrithik Roshan too felt that Aishwarya wasn’t doing complete justice to Jodhaa Akbar because of Abhishek’s presence on the sets.

So whoever thought that getting Abhishek and Aishwarya as a package deal would prove beneficial had gotten it all wrong.
