'U Me aur Hum' -- straight from Ajay's heart

Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan making his directorial debut with 'U Me aur Hum,' scheduled to release later this month, says his maiden project brings out the positivity of relationship between a husband and wife.

Ajay who is paired opposite his actress wife of nine years Kajol in the film said it was a simple love story about a man who marries a girl he loves and overcomes all hurdles to maintain the relationship.

"The film doesn't give a sermon on relationships. The audiences will identify with the scharacters. What is different in the subject is that the film looks at the institution of marriage in a positive way," the actor said.

"A lot of people question the institution of marriage, or blame it when problems arise. I feel that in a marriage, or any relationship for that matter, problems are inevitable.

'Giving up' should be our last option. However, an increasing number of people just prefer to give up at the first sign of trouble, Devgan said.

The actor who began his career with action packed roles, said he felt that relationships, especially marriages need to be nurtured with love, sensitivity and understanding.

"People keep asking me what inspired me to chose this subject and direct a film. To be honest, this is a story straight from my heart. A story which I strongly believed in," he told reporters here on Monday night.

It was one of the most beautiful gifts I've ever received!” It was also a touching moment for him when the organizer managed to get the footage of his best friend Vijay Nagra and his family who are settled in South Africa and was shown to him. He got to interact with them after a gap of four years. Ajay could not control his tears on receiving so many surprises on that short time. After lots of surprises, cake was cut on the presence of his parents Veeru and Veena Devgan, sisters Neelam and Kavita and his nephew Aman (Neelam's son), wife Kajol and mother-in-law Tanuja.

Ajay started his career with Phool Aur Kaate and bagged the filmfare best debut award for the film. From then he never looked back. His starred in Mahesh Bhatt’s Zakhm and received critical acclamation for his acting. Zakhm brought him National and Star Screen Award. Ajay is an actor of different style who specialized in all the departments, comedy, action, romance etc.

He went to entertain the audience without any break. He showed his prowess in Hum Dil De Chuke Saman, Company, Yuva, Omkara, Halla Bol and the list goes on. He had also proved his potential in parallel cinema like Raincoat opposite Aishwarya Bachchan. In 17 years of his filmy career, Ajay had worked with almost all the noted filmmakers.

Today, he is a happily married person and leading a successful and blissful life with wife Kajol and daughter Nysa. They are his topmost priorities and despite his hectic schedule finds time to spend with his family. After establishing himself as a great actor, he is moving towards directing films. 'U Me Aur Hum' set for clash with 'Krazzy 4'



Ajay Devgan’s directorial debut is on a collision course with Rakesh Roshan’s home production.

A lull has taken over the theatres as the month of March (which sees lowest turnout at box-office due to the school and college exams) approaches. The lull will be broken by a tornado in April when Fridays would be crammed with Bollywood releases.

April 11 will see the release of two big films – ‘U Me Aur Hum’ and ‘Krazzy 4’.

U Me Aur Hum marks the return of Ajay Devgan and Kajol together as a pair after a long gap of eight years. The film is also Devgan’s directorial debut. All this, coupled with the film’s feelgood theme, has roused quite a curiosity about ‘U Me Aur Hum’.

And feeling the heat is Rakesh Roshan whose home production Krazy 4 has no big stars in main roles ( Arshad Warsi , Irrfan Khan , Suresh Menon, Rajpal Yadav and Juhi Chawla ) and is directed by a newcomer named Jaideep Raja Sen.

Clearly, ‘U Me Aur Hum’ has an upper hand over ‘Krazzy 4’.

In fact, reports have it that Roshan senior has got in touch with Devgan to discuss any possible way to avoid the clash between the two films. But Devgan couldn’t make any adjustment because the marketing and distribution plans have already been drawn for his film.

On the other hand, Roshan senior also cannot postpone his film even by a week because it would then get sandwiched between two big movies – ‘U Me Aur Hum’ (on April 11) and Yashraj Films Tashan (on April 25).

For the time being it appears that the clash between Devgan’s and Roshan’s films is inevitable.

When Ajay Devgan first heard the unplugged version of the title track of his film U Me Aur Hum , the actor’s eyes welled up.

Ajay Devgan has given his labour, his time, his passion, his money and his heart to his upcoming film ‘U Me Aur Hum’, which the actor describes as a story he genuinely wanted to tell.


The movie, which marks Devgan’s debut as a director, has songs composed by his good friend Vishal Bhardwaj .

Vishal, who is one of the outstanding music directors in Bollywood, normally doesn’t take music assignments anymore, but he made an exception for Devgan.

And the film’s mellifluous title track turned out to Devgan’s satisfaction. The number is sung by Shreya Ghosal.

Apart from this, Bhardwaj privately recorded an unplugged version of the same song in his own voice. And one day, when he played the track to Devgan, the actor got so emotional listening to it that he had tears in his eyes.

In an instant, Devgan told Bhardwaj that he wanted to use the unplugged version in the film and in the music album.

Vishal says he took Devgan’s emotional response to the song as a compliment. It meant that the track was impactful.

‘U Me Aur Hum’ is a story about relationships. The film stars Kajol opposite Devgan. It is set to hit the theatres in April.
