The first Bollywood film to be set entirely in Sydney, Heyy Babyy, was previewed last night at the State Theatre in Sydney, two days ahead of its world-premiere in Mumbai today.
More than 200 high-profile guests were showered with flower petals as they walked the red carpet - a traditional Indian welcome. Guests were entertained by a cast of Indian dancers, a bhangara drummer and a henna tattooist as they feasted on authentic Indian cuisine.

Bollywood is in dire need of a number of super hits during the current year. The current year so far has had a good number of small and big films, but unfortunately most of them have miserably failed to hit the box office. In fact, big films have proved disasters so far. Only last month (July) a Salman-Govinda partnership movie of David Dhawan titled 'Partner' did hit the screen and attracted a large crowd but didn't fare too well at the box office.
It’s news that wouldn’t make too many Bollywood bigwigs happy. But one Bollywood babe certainly is. This year’s Euro RSCG Bollywood Predictameter has said that many of 2007’s much-awaited films — including biggies like Om Shanti Om, Ram Gopal Varma ki Aag, Saavariyan and Aaja Nach Le — are likely to disappoint at the box office.
After testing the television market down south, Anuj Saxena’s Maverick is all set to route into South Indian cinema.
The company has entered into a co-production deal a few months back with Vision Technology. However it’s not yet decided whether the movie will be in Tamil or Telugu.

In a country where matrimonial ad pages are dotted with requests for “fair-complexioned” girls, it comes as no surprise that a fairness cream has roped in the relatively light-skinned Bollywood darling, Shah Rukh Khan, as its key endorser.
Lately, however, Khan's attempt to get more men to use Emami’s popular skin-lightening product, Fair and Handsome, has raised the hackles of some social commentators.
All's Fair In Love And Bollywood
Sample this: Much-awaited movies such as Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag (Sholay remake), the Sony Pictures’ Saanvariyan and Farah Khan’s magnum opus Om Shanti Om will just about scrape through at the box office.
The much-hyped Madhuri Dixit comeback film Aaja Nachley and Laaga Chunari Mein Daag seem headed for disaster while Chak De India will just be an average grosser, somewhat contrary to the early news flowing in from the box office.
And the biggest surprise of all: Ram Gopal Varma’s relatively low-key film Darling is destined to be the biggest hit of 2007.

After two consecutive flops at the box-office – "Just Married" and "Cash", Esha Deol has high expectations from "Darling", the twenty-fifth film of her career. Sanjay Dutt tickles a funny bone in Dhamaal
Ster-Kinekor Distribution has acquired Bollywood films which will now also be released at Ster-Kinekor Theatres nationally from the end of August.
After a hiatus of nearly three years, Ster-Kinekor Theatres will also be releasing top quality titles coming out of India, beginning with the release this Friday 31 August of Ram Gopal Varma ki Aag, the much-awaited remake of the all-time hit Sholay.
Other titles slated for release at Ster-Kinekor Theatres over the coming weeks include Dhamaal, Saawariya and Welcome.
"Sanjay Dutt is one of the five lead actors in DHAMAAL", clarifies Ritiesh Deshmukh while refuting gossips around Dutt merely playing a cameo in the film.

Bollywood star Salman Khan was released on bail on Friday after spending a week in jail in a poaching case.
"The court accepted Salman Khan's plea (for bail)," counsel Dipesh Mehta told reporters after a two-hour hearing by judge HR Panwar of the Jodhpur bench of the Rajasthan High Court.
"The court has directed Salman to furnish a bond of Rs 100,000 and two sureties of like amount," Mehta added.
"We had full faith in judiciary and finally we have been proven right," says Salman counsel Hastimal Saraswat.
The actor has been asked to present himself in court on October 24.

An Indian court freed Bollywood star Salman Khan on bail on Friday almost a week after he was arrested and jailed for shooting an endangered gazelle during hunting trips nearly a decade ago.
He walked free on Friday evening, wearing a blue-grey baseball cap, a white shirt and jeans. A crowd of policemen escorted him to a black sports utility vehicle waiting outside the jail. Further away, hundreds of fans cheered for their idol.
He will fly back home to Mumbai, some media reports said.
The court also ordered the actor to deposit a personal bond of 100 000 rupees (about R20 000).
Indian film star Khan gets bail
An Indian court on Friday granted bail to top Bollywood actor Salman Khan pending his appeal against a conviction for poaching protected wildlife, paving the way for his release from prison.
The 41-year-old star was sent to jail last week after a court threw out an appeal by the actor against his conviction, under which has to serve a five-year prison term.
"The court has accepted his bail plea," Khan's lawyer told reporters in western Jodhpur city

Having suggested that, the sympathy these stars evoke is unavoidable and often understandable. It’s not about the educated or uneducated masses who can’t understand what’s ‘right’ or ‘wrong’. It’s simply that these stars are more visible than the victims, and end up getting more publicity. Unfortunately, the law isn’t always well equipped to make the right decision, which doesn’t give the common man a lot of affection for it, so it’s the stars’ words against the others. Besides, there are two sides to every coin: while the likes of Khan and Dutt might use their influence to get out of a tight spot, they also invite extra wrath from the judicial system who love to present ‘brand India’ to the world, the ‘democracy’ where everyone gets equal justice - as Chacko puts it, ‘My India sees all her citizens as the same’.

But if Sony Pictures goes ahead and sues an Indian director in a $US30 million ($A37 million) plagiarism lawsuit, this could change.
Sony is considering legal action over a new hit film, Partner, parts of which are apparently lifted from its Hollywood movie Hitch, starring Will Smith.
In his defence, Partner producer Sohail Khan trots out the standard Bollywood euphemism, claiming his film is "inspired" by Hitch.
