Has Katrina Kaif dumped Salman?

Has Katrina Kaif dumped Salman?

Katrina finally seems to be getting away from Salman's shadow. The year 2007 was indeed special for Katrina as she is the only actress to achieve four back-to-back successes in the year in Namastey London, Apne, Partner and Welcome.

Today she has become the highest paid item girl in the industry paid a whopping 1.5 crore to shimmy in Shree Ashtavinayak’s next film Blue.

The film stars Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar and Lara Dutta in lead roles.

We hear, when the production house asked her to do an item number, Kaif initially refused, as she doesn’t want the label of an item girl.

But when the makers agreed to pay her a 1.5 crore fee and offered a few more scenes, the actress accepted.

However, Balaji people were not that lucky. When they approached Katrina to do an item number for their next, C Company, the actress flatly turned it down. Money, of course, was the bone of contention. Balaji was not willing to shell out that kind of money.

But being an item with a fat pay cheque is not what she all wants, she wants to share space with someone like Hrithik.

“I don’t know if I would get an opportunity to work with him so early in my career, but he is one actor I would love to work with, no questions asked," she tells.

"The way he put his heart and soul into the character of Akbar left me speechless. I'm looking forward to working with Hrithik sometime soon.”

Of course, she is also in for an image makeover, so it is bye bye girl next doot and hello sexy siren phase for Katrina.

But this change is not just confined to her professional life. She is also delibrately distancing herself from Salman.

So when someone from media asked her Salman Khan and his ongoing flings with Brazilian supermodel Bruna Abdalah and Mahek Chahal Kat just pounced on the poor guy saying," You know, you guys need to learn that when someone is standing before you, you have to treat that person with respect."

"It's a ridiculous question, ridiculous. You guys need to learn to draw the line," she added before walking away in a huff.

When Saif Ali Khan helped Katrina Kaif at the wheel

When Saif Ali Khan helped Katrina Kaif at the wheel

Saif Ali Khan stepped in to help co-star Katrina Kaif when she wasn’t able to do a scene for Abbas-Mastan’s thriller Race .

The film has Saif playing a rich man whose business is race horsing. Katrina plays his secretary who is besotted with him but he ignores her advances.

There is a scene in the film that shows Katrina driving a vintage car. Though Katrina is a pretty fine driver herself, she was clueless when she took the wheel of a vintage car with old-model gears and accelerator.

Watching Kats struggle with the automobile, Saif decided to help her out.

He sat beside her, took the wheel, and gave her instructions on how to drive the car. Though Kats managed to operate the car, she still needed practice to handle the automobile confidently.

So Saif continued to sit with her during the scene. Only when the camera began to roll, he ducked down so that it would appear that Kats was driving the car alone.

Very clever, Saif. Now we know how you avoid the paparazzi.

Katrina, Deepika and Dravid in IPL video

Katrina, Deepika and Dravid in IPL video

Just as the euphoria and excitement surrounding King Khan's video for his IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders seems to be subsiding, comes the news that the Bangalore Royal Challengers IPL team would also be soon unveiling their ad and promotional video.

For those who came in late, the Bangalore Royal Challengers IPL team is owned by none other than liquor baron Dr. Vijay Mallya and local boy Rahul Dravid is the captain. Mallya, who is known to do things in style, has roped in director Sanjay Gupta to direct the sporty and racy ad while action director Allan Amin would be in-charge of the action.

What's more, Mallya would also be coming out with a promotional music video, an anthem for his team for which music composer Sandeep Chowta has been roped in. However, what is considered the real high point is that this video would have Rahul Dravid in the company of two sizzling hot beauties- Katrina Kaif and Bangalore girl Deepika Padukone.

Well, with Bollywood beauties grooving with our Men-in-Blue, cricket fever seems to reach an all time high this summer.

Katrina: from nowhere to the Race…

From someone who refused offers just a few years ago, because of her diction today she's a much sought after star. Ms Kaif, sure has long way. The sexy actress who refused movies five years ago as she had to polish her Hindi speaking abilities is now speaking the lingo with gusto. What's even more surprising is that she has learnt the ways of the industry too; if earlier she would speak with the media quite regularly, today she is guarded about whom and when she speaks with but yes, she was always guarded about her relationship with Salman Khan and even then, as now, never spoke about it. read more

Filmi models hotting up Bollywood!

Filmi models hotting up Bollywood!

Whether it's dancing around trees or lying in a hospital ward, looking good is of prime concern for pretty much every heroine in Bollywood, (Yes, Vidya Balan too).

Thanks to picture perfect make-up and sexily sculpted bodies, playing a reel-life model is a cake, or should we say ramp walk for our leading ladies.

Off-screen, a model may struggle to find a meaty break in the movies, however essaying a reel model, more often than not, results in a engaging and fleshed out role.

And so life comes a full circle for supermodel-turned actress Bipasha Basu as she slips back into her stylish and confident shoes to portray her original profession in Abbas Mustan's forthcoming thriller, Race.

Others joining the filmi profession are Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut -- both playing cut-throat rivals in Madhur Bhandkar's take on the bold and the beautiful -- Fashion.

Looks like playing a model is in vogue. And here, in no particular order, are the divas from the past.

Katrina Kaif looks beyond Salman Khan

Katrina Kaif looks beyond Salman Khan

A gorgeous smile blessed with a natural pout, fluttering eye-lashes, glowing wavy locks and a sparkling complexion... Katrina Kaif is indeed a stunner and who can be better than this sedate beauty to unveil an equally beautiful TV! Renuka Vyavahare cornered Katrina at an event and chatted up the star on Salman, forthcoming films and her fascination for TV!

You’ve been named as the ‘ninth wonder of the world’ by these event organizers!
I am overwhelmed and honoured. Feels great. Besides I feel special as I have been chosen to launch a one of its kind diamond studded TV which has been going all over the globe and is currently in India! I wish they gift me one too!

Since you’ve launched a tv, any plans of working in television serials?
I have never seen tv as a small medium. In fact I love watching TV reality shows like Nach Baliye, Indian Idol, Sa Re Ga Ma... to name a few. I like the way these reality shows encourage talent and give them a platform to perform and prove themselves. I don’t watch saas bahu serials though (laughs).

So, if given an opportunity, would you act in tv serials?
Why not?

Are Salman and Akshay becoming your must haves in films?
I have worked with Govinda too (smiles). I am open to working with other actors as well. There is no such issue.

You are just back from the shoot of Ghai’s Yuvraj?
We have just finished shooting for the first schedule of the film which was for about 20 days in Austria. It’s a great experience to work with a legend like Subhash Ghai, it’s also my 4th film with Anil Kapoor and first with Zayed.

So what are your future plans?
Hmmm... I’d like to see TV and retire from doing films! (laughs)

Subhash Ghai's YUVRAAJ has the best crew

Subhash Ghai's YUVRAAJ has the best crew

Joginder Tuteja, Bollywood Trade News Network
YUVRAAJ is undoubtedly one of the most keenly awaited movies of the year. To make sure that he makes the film a no-compromise affair, Subhash Ghai has ensured that the film has the best crew in place to take care of overall production of the film.

Let's talk about music first. When A R Rahman and Gulzaar saab come together, one can't think of a better combination. It is this combination which sets the platform for YUVRAAJ, a musical featuring a formidable cast that includes Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Zayed Khan and Boman Irani. Shiamak Davar, the man who choreographed Ghai's TAAL as well, is expected to go all out in giving YUVRAAJ an opulent treatment.

Kabir Lal has lighted up the frames in a way only he can in films like PARDES, TAAL, KAHO NAA PYAAR HAI and THE HERO to name a few. The cinematographer is expected to deliver quality work with YUVRAAJ as well where the bare minimum requirement is to make everything look rich and glossy.

Last but not the least, with someone like Omang Kumar who has a classic like BLACK behind him to showcase his skills as an art director, YUVRAAJ looks all set to be on a right track.

Katrina Kaif in 'Blue'

Katrina Kaif in 'Blue'

Gorgeous Katrina Kaif seems to have made a place in the wishlists of many filmmakers.

The constantly rising actress has now signed a new film titled Blue . The film already stars Akshay Kumar and Lara Dutta .

Reportedly, Priyanka Chopra was first considered for the role of the film’s second heroine. However, the actress apparently did not want to start a fresh round of rumours linking her with Akshay. So she thought it better not to do this film with Akki.

Consequently, the production house Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision approached Katrina Kaif for the role.

Katrina and Akshay, who are already one of the hottest jodis in Bollywood, will be working together for the fifth time.

Apart from Katrina, Sunil Shetty has also been signed for the film.

‘Blue’ is likely to go on the floors in the second half of 2008. The film is rumored to have a whopping budget of Rs. 100 crore. The movie will be directed by a foreign ad filmmaker named Tony.

Review: Race

IndiaFM
Movie: Race

Director: Abbas Mustan
Producer: Morani brothers
Music: Pritam
Cast: Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Bipasha Baus, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor, Sameera Reddy

Most successful composer of 2007, Pritam, returns to big arena with Race. After super successful soundtracks in films like Life In A...Metro, Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Jab We Met behind him, anything with a tag of Pritam comes with high expectations. This is why when something as pedestrian as a My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves or a Speed arrives, a listener is bound to be disappointed.

However, when entities like TIPS, Abbas Mustan, Sameer and a huge star cast of Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Bipasha Basu, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor and Sameera Reddy come together, the project is bound to be big! Expectations from the soundtrack here are also reasonably big, never mind the action genre of Race which somehow restrict the boundaries for a popular score. But then Dhoom is a case study to look back at! 'Can Pritam do it again', is the question? Yes, he does it. And he has a couple of potential chartbusters up his sleeves which would only aid in creating an exhilarating 'race'!

The music album comes in a twin CD pack with the first one comprising of original numbers by Pritam and the second having remix versions of each of the songs by DJ Suketu.

It's the sound of electronic guitar, which begins the Race - pun intended! Soon kick starts the signature tune of any bona fide thriller, a la Mission Impossible or many a James Bond flick, and you know that it's going to be one adrenalin ride from this point on. Though the song has a title Race Saanson Ki, the punch comes with Allah Duhai Hai, which brings the necessary rhythm into the proceedings. Sunidhi Chauhan gets the club feel on with her spunky singing while Neeraj compliments her just fine.

A theme number, which is bound to make its presence felt in a big way in the background score of the film, Race Saanson Ki is also, heard in one more version - Race Is On My Mind - which has lines alternatively in Hindi and English. Further to this, there are 'remix versions' of both Race Saanson Ki and Race Is On My Mind and the final outcome is that by the time the album is over, you are hooked on to the sound of Race Saanson Ki. Ok, so you may not end up singing this number on the streets but when it's edgy music video (featuring the entire cast) is on the air or the song is playing in the clubs or the discotheques, it would be hard to resist yourself from jumping on to the dance floor!

After exhausting all the energy in dancing to the beats of Race Saanson Ki, it is time to relax on the couch and get into some sweet talk with your love while listening to Pehli Nazar Mein. A soft rock number which is set in a mode similar to the genre of songs which became a rage in Life In A… Metro, Pehli Nazar Mein is special since it brings Pakistan sensation Atif Aslam (Tere Bin - Bas Ek Pal) with Pritam.

The song is a complete departure from the arrangements of the title song since this time around there are minimum instruments in the background with pure melody coming into the forefront. The song has a Western styling but its base lies in melody from the sub-continent which makes this immensely romantic number a must hear.

A sure shot winner, it also comes in a Lounge Mix and Club Mix version. Does this take away from the beauty of the original version? Or do these two versions add on to the impact created by Atif in the first listening itself? It is definitely the latter as one hearing of these versions and as a listener, you are dead sure that in the next visit to an up-market lounge, pub or a club, you would certainly find the song being played hard. Atif and Pritam can assure themselves of a sure shot concert hit here!

An instrumental Race Theme, which comes in the end, is the one which should make it to the title credits. Reason being that this slow moving two minute version has an intrinsic intriguing/haunting quality to it, which compliments the genre of films that Abbas Mustan have been known for years.

The rhythm of Salaame [Dhoom] is back in action with Dekho Nashe Mein. After hearing a good (Race Saanson Ki) and a superb (Pehli Nazar Mein) number in quick succession, Dekho Nashe Mein turns out to be a just-about-decent offering from Pritam. The composer sets the song in a mood similar to that of It's The Time To Disco [Kal Ho Na Ho] and Where's The Party Tonight [Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna] while creating a far lesser impact.

Average lyrics by Sameer do not help the cause either and the song risks being disappeared as an also-ran until and unless the usual suspects - choreography and picturisation - come to the rescue! In fact, the song's antara turns out to be a better hear than the mukhda since the former takes it's melody from one of the most underrated/neglected songs of Pritam - 'Ek Pal Mein' [Hat Trick]! The song also appears in a Latin Fiesta and a 'remix version' but even repeated listening to the song doesn't stop you from dropping everything and going back to Pehli Nazar Mein - the best of the enterprise so far!

Taz, who had made a splash with his track Thoda Daaru Vich Pyaar Mila De in Tum Bin years back, returns to sing Mujh Pe To Jadoo. The song is more fun than romantic as it fuses the beach celebration flavor with romance and intersperses rap elements, courtesy Apache Indian, who sings for a Bollywood flick after a hiatus. Sunidhi Chauhan is the only female voice in this fast moving track, which is yet another average sounding track after Dekho Nashe Mein. Ok, so it is inevitable not to find your feet tapping to the 'bhangra' beats here, especially in the 'remix version', but in entirety the song doesn't have a retention value, something which one expects from Pritam after some superb work he did in 2007.

An instant hit though comes in the form of Zara Zara Touch Me which hooks you in the very first hearing. Sound of seduction combined with a naughty call for love makers Zara Zara Touch Me a must-play in lounges. Sung by newcomer Monali, the song has a fresh appeal to it and promises to steam up the proceedings once it is on the screen. Said to be picturised on Katrina with Saif in tow, Zara Zara moves slowly and has a certain 'anticipation' flavor to it, which brings a different feel to the proceedings.

With an intrinsic Western feel to it, with a sound similar to the numbers played on MTV or Channel V in late night slots, Zara Zara comes in an original, 'Asian RnB Mix' and a 'remix version'. Never mind the rendition of words like 'dum da dum dum' interspersed into the song, this one is bound to showcase Katrina in a different light and only increase her fan base.

Race has two very good songs (Pehli Nazar Mein, Zara Zara), a good number (Race Sanson Ki) and two average tracks (Dekho Nashe Mein, Mujh Pe To Jadoo) which makes it an overall entertaining album. A remix CD only works towards the retention value of the album as it adds on to the range of presenting tracks that can be played in clubs and lounges as well. Will it be remembered the same way as a Life In… A Metro or a Jab We Met? Not really as it doesn't have a timeless feel to it, but then for a racy outing like Race, it is definitely worth a play (on a high volume of course) when in mood to hang out and let your hair down!

It is directed by Sameer Arnik, maker of Kyun ho gaya na who had worked with Bobby Deol on Kareeb.

Bollywood Film : Nanhe Jaisalmer

Though the pairing of music director Himesh Reshammiya with lyricist Sameer has produced major hits in the past, they fail to make heads turn with "Nanhe Jaisalmer".

The soundtrack comprises a couple of tracks with some folk in it and also has classic Reshammiya numbers that hardly create a stir.

With a typical Rajasthani touch to it is "Kesariya", a song rendered by Jayesh Gandhi and Vineet Singh, who was one of the finalists in Zee TV's talent hunt show "Hero Honda Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge".

Bollywood Film Nanhe Jaisalmer: Music Review : Nanhe Jaisalmer

Director : Samir Karnik, Music : Himesh Reshammiya, Lyrics : Sameer, Starring : Bobby Deol, Katrina Kaif, Dwij Yadav.

Music Review : Nanhe Jaisalmer

In multiplex era, child fictional dramas haven’t found fancy of hoi polloi and so do their lighthearted musical offerings. NANHE JAISALMER, a tale about fictional dreams coming true in factual realities, proves to be a breather in this genre and unexpectedly delivers melodic exuberance through its cherubic and jocular vocal and harmonic offerings. After APNE, the winner comes from Sonu Nigam in the form of thematically conceived track “Nanhe Yaar” while fresh talent Vineet surprises with similar vocal tonality in “Kesariya”.

Salman Khand Bollywood: Katrina comfort for Salman

He's been smoking plenty of cigarettes, chewing gum, doing push-ups, and surprise, surprise, even reading a book on practical spirituality: Meher Baba's 'God Speaks'. But the real comforting moment for Jodhpur Central Jail's most famous inmate came when girlfriend Katrina Kaif, dressed in a solemn white chikan kurta and jeans, came to meet him along with his brother Arbaaz Khan and sister Alvira on Sunday afternoon.
