Esha delighted by Tamil lingo

Esha delighted by Tamil lingo

Esha Deol's character of a loud, crass and talkative Tamilian café owner in producer Kumar Mangat's comedy One Two Three was never meant to be region-specific initially.

Ahswini Dheer, the talented sitcom director of Office Office, has helmed the film and was so impressed with her Tamil lingo that he gave her character a makeover.

"When Ashwini heard me chattering away in Tamil with my mother, who had come to visit me in Pondicherry, he loved the intonations and loud-and-soft dips and curves in our language," said Esha, who earned rave reviews for her performance in Ankahee.

She is delighted by her side-splitting lingo opportunity.

"The Tamil in One Two Three was a cakewalk. They loved my aiyyos and appas so much that they've decided to use them as a voiceover in the promos," Esha said.

After having shot her first comedy in Pondicherry, she is still laughing.

"It's my first attempt at comedy. Though I've been a part of comedy films like No Entry, I've never done the funny stuff. It was great fun going over the top, specially the portions where I had to speak my mother tongue."

"That's right. In the Tamil version of Mani Ratnam's Yuva, but that was a different style of Tamil spoken by the Iyer community - different from what we speak at home which is the Iyenger Tamil. So that was tough."

With no more projects in hand, Esha is currently enjoying an ideal holiday.

"I've no assignments on hand after One Two Three and I'm happy to wait for the right offers."

I'm attracted to a lot of men: Esha

I'm attracted to a lot of men: Esha

Her recent films may not have set the cash registers ringing at the BO, but Esha Deol’s unfazed by the lukewarm response her films have garnered.

Instead the actress, who’s currently on a self-imposed hiatus, prefers not to mull over the past and is excited about her two-month stint in the US.

“Oh, I’m jobless at the moment and I’m making the most of it by catching up on sleep, working out and re-learning jazz and ballet at a US-based dance institute. I’m also indulging my tastebuds and binging on ghar ka khana, which I will so miss there,” said the sexy star, as she settled for a quick tete-a-tete, with her equally starry Lhasa, Piccola, in tow. But isn’t she wary of piling on the pounds?

“We keep trying new hairstyles, so why not try new body-styles? Right now, I’m enjoying being a little curvaceous,” she laughed. “I’m also planning to have another tattoo done,” revealed the bindaas babe, who already sports three of them. “I love travelling and exploring. In fact, I have the best conversations with strangers,” revealed the star, who is looking forward to her upcoming films — Hijack, where she plays an airhostess, and One, Two Three.

Esha loves living on the edge, so much so that her idea of romance too borders on the wild. So is love on the cards? “No yaar! I’m at my peak, enjoying absolute freedom. It’s not going to last forever. I know some day I am going to settle down, get married, have a family, but till then, I just want to have a blast. ” And though the girl admits that she does get attracted to men, she’s yet to come across the right guy.

“I am attracted to a lot of men, but not enough to tell them about it. Besides, I would want them to woo me instead.” And who is she really attracted to at the moment? “Owen Wilson’s my hottie! I love his lips.” So, is she planning to meet the actor whilst in US? “No, I’m still waiting to meet Sylvester Stallone first. He’s my all-time hottie and I still have a soft corner for him.” And which actor does she think she’s most compatible with in Bollywood? “Ajay for sure. Ajay and me share a very strange chemistry on screen,” she says unabashedly.

Bollywood Forthcoming Film : Bollywood box-office report of the week

The coming Friday will see the release of the Dutt, Arshad, Riteish and Aashish starrer DHAMAAL and Ram Gopal Varma's Fardeen-Esha starrer, DARLING. Of the two DHAMAAL is expected to take a better start due to a better cast (and Indra Kumar's past record in comedy), as compared to DARLING.

All the three releases of last Friday failed to impress the paying audience as well as the critics. Ananth Narayan Mahadevan's VICTORIA NO. 203 looks like a half hearted attempt and expectedly the opening was poor across India. A definite disaster and there are no surprises in that outcome. Pooja Bhatt's DHOKHA is a good attempt gone wrong in execution and publicity.

Bollywood Film : Esha's acting skills impress Ram Gopal Varma

Director Ram Gopal Varma seems quite impressed by Esha Deol and says her acting skills have not been fully exploited. The actress plays an intense role in his new horror-comedy Darling.

"Esha's character in the film has been treated with intensity. She is a good actress who has not been utilised fully," said Varma told IANS. Darling releases Sep 7.

The director, whose expertise lies in making horror and underworld films, tries his hand at comedy for the first time in Darling and is confident that it will succeed in eliciting laughter from the audience.

Shah Rukh Khan : All's Fair In Love And Bollywood

In a country where matrimonial ad pages are dotted with requests for “fair-complexioned” girls, it comes as no surprise that a fairness cream has roped in the relatively light-skinned Bollywood darling, Shah Rukh Khan, as its key endorser.

Lately, however, Khan's attempt to get more men to use Emami’s popular skin-lightening product, Fair and Handsome, has raised the hackles of some social commentators.

Bollywood to have only one Darling

Sample this: Much-awaited movies such as Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag (Sholay remake), the Sony Pictures’ Saanvariyan and Farah Khan’s magnum opus Om Shanti Om will just about scrape through at the box office.

The much-hyped Madhuri Dixit comeback film Aaja Nachley and Laaga Chunari Mein Daag seem headed for disaster while Chak De India will just be an average grosser, somewhat contrary to the early news flowing in from the box office.

And the biggest surprise of all: Ram Gopal Varma’s relatively low-key film Darling is destined to be the biggest hit of 2007.

Bollywood film Darling : Short clothes? Why not! : Esha Deol

After two consecutive flops at the box-office – "Just Married" and "Cash", Esha Deol has high expectations from "Darling", the twenty-fifth film of her career. It was the first time that she worked with Ram Gopal Varma and the experience has left her reinvigorated. Add to that, she is playing a ghost for the first time.
