'Abhishek Bachchan excels in silent close-ups'
For those who have seen Sarkar , will most probably agree with the fact that Abhishek Bachchan excels in silent close-ups – a quality that Ram Gopal Varma has brought to the fore.
Recently, Abhishek took a day off from his hectic schedule to do some additional shooting for Varma's Sarkar Raj before he flew off to Miami to join Karan Johar 's Dostana .
According to Varma, "There were a few vital close-ups of Abhishek that I wanted to add to the film, so before anyone jumps to the conclusion that I re-shot my film, let me quickly clear the air. I think Abhishek excels in silent close-ups. Not too many actors of his generation know how to hold silences on camera. I made him do that in Naach . And I just thought a few tight close-ups would add to the drama in Sarkar Raj."
Varma added that Abhishek has given yet another riveting performance in ‘Sarkar Raj’ after Guru .
"I wouldn't even compare the two performances on any level except that intensity that Abhishek brings to both the roles. Abhishek and Aishwarya in ‘Sarkar Raj’ will be very different from ‘Guru’. And if you ask me, he has gone far beyond what he did in ‘Sarkar’."
‘Sarkar Raj’, that also stars Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, has Ash playing a manipulative and ruthless businesswoman who doesn’t care to bend the rules to make money from the people.
On the other hand, Abhishek’s character has shades of philanthropy. He, too, makes money, but for the people and not from them.
This basic ideological polarity is the difference between Ash and Abhishek in ‘Sarkar Raj’. Their characters are antagonistic to each other before their conflict takes a different turn and transforms into subdued romance.
Varma says ‘Sarkar Raj’ is a bigger film than its prequel. The movie doesn’t carry the old story forward, but takes a look at another episode in the Nagare family’s life.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has declined to co-star with Hollywood wonder boy Will Smith yet again!
Two years ago, Smith offered her a role in his comedy Hitch which Ash could not accept due to time constraints. At that time, a besotted Smith who wanted to work with the beauty queen had said in an interview, “Aishwarya has this powerful energy and doesn’t have to say anything, or do anything, she can just stand there. Anything she’s making, I’ll be there.”
Since then, Aishwarya turned down two more Will Smith projects. “That’s true,” she laughed. “I had to say no to Will for The Seven Pounds and now again for Tonight He Comes (Smith’s super-hero flick re-named John Hancock). I feel awful about it. But I’ve my priorities. Family always comes first.”
Contrary to reports, Aishwarya didn’t decline the film to celebrate Karwa Chauth in Mumbai. “That’s what the Hollywood press wrote... that I preferred to return to Mumbai to ‘starve’ myself for a religious occasion than to meet Will. That’s incorrect. The script reading was just after Diwali when Dadima’s (Teji Bachchan’s) health dipped. So I didn’t make that trip for the reading with Will. Is that wrong? Not to me. I’d any day put family over career.”
Now Ash has said no to Tonight He Comes. “I couldn’t do it because of my schedules. Flying in and out of the country for a role is not what I want to do now,” she said. Are Ash and Will star-crossed? “When it has to happen it will happen. There’s something very charismatic about that actor. He gives off very nice vibes. He’s very adventurous as an actor. He did I Am Legend and Pursuit Of Happiness at the same time. He’s an actor, rapper, and a great family man. I like that.”

Aishwarya paid whopping 4 Crores
Aishwarya paid whopping 4 CroresNow it can be told. The star-price wars has escalated to an all-time high.
With Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan carrying home a pay packet of Rs 4 crores for her proposed stint as Rajnikanth's leading lady in Shankar's Robot, the lady has now become the highest-paid actress of Indian cinema.
A source very close to Aishwarya says, "The media has got it all wrong. Ash has actually received twice the amount quoted in papers and on websites as her fee for Robot. Yes, it's close to Rs 4 crores.
And she's very very amused when she reads about this and that actress being the highest-paid actress in Bollywood.

Aish-Abhi feud?
Aish-Abhi feud?
Areeee.. why are you upset? We are talking about the roles that this hubby-wife have got to play in RGV's 'Sarkar' sequel 'Sarkar Raj' that will see Big B, Junior Bachchan and the Bachchan bahu being cast in lead roles. Though is film has been forecast as a sequel to its previous 'Sarkar' this film is huge when compared to the budget and the star cast of its predecessor.
This is the first film that will be releasing for Abhi after his marriage with Aish and what is very interesting is that in this flick the Abhi-Aish character has been dealt with as 'diametrically opposite' from each other. Aishwarya Rai plays a hardcore business woman who has her own rules for getting things done her way with no compromise whatsoever.
It will really be interesting to see this romantic couple on and off screen being hitched opposite each other, for all the fans. But we had some news doing the rounds a few days back that 'Sarkar Raj' will not be released as scheduled in May and might get delayed because Bachchan senior was not really happy with some scenes involving Abhi after he saw the rushes. Since this is the first film that is going to release for Abhishek after his marriage, Big B had asked the director RGV to redo some scenes involving him and Abhi.
But Ram Gopal Varma, the director of 'Sarkar Raj' has reportedly quashed all such rumors and has confirmed that the film will hit theatres in May.
We guess the real life couple pitting against each other in reel life will be quite a watch!

Speculation rife about Mani Ratnam's next hero
Speculation rife about Mani Ratnam's next hero
Bollywood's casting pundits are busy speculating about Mani Ratnam's second hero for his new movie starring Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. It is an intense love story.
The rumour that actor Ranbir Kapoor will be a part of the cast has triggered the guessing game. "We've no idea where all the speculation started, or what it means. Ranbir doesn't feature in the cast of Mani's film at all," said a source close to the project.
The source added: "There is another male lead required in this Abhishek-Ash love story. But it must be someone older than Abhishek. So, it cannot be Ranbir."
Could it be Madhavan, who has done five films with the Tamil filmmaker?
Madhavan denies the rumour. "No. I'm certainly not a part of Mani sir's new film. He hasn't asked me and I wouldn't be able to do it even if he does because I've no dates from September when he shoots his Hindi film."
Is Madhavan disappointed that Mani Ratnam has switched favourites? "Not at all!" Madhavan laughs. "Mani and I have done five films together. He needs to work with other actors. And I need to look at other directors."

Aishwarya Rai said 'Yes!' to 'Jodhaa Akbar' in an instant
The gorgeous Aishwarya Rai Bachchan says given the character, the script and the subject, it is an actor's dream to be part of a project like Jodhaa Akbar .
Ash says that her decision was an instant 'Yes!' to act opposite Hrithik Roshan in the Ashutosh Gowarikar – directed film.
Asked by a news agency how it was working with Hrithik on two movies – Dhoom 2 and ‘Jodhaa Akbar’ – back-to-back, Ash said: "I was very lucky to get to work with Hrithik in two movies. They were so diverse in genre, energy and personality.”
"At one end is ‘Dhoom 2’, which was so contemporary – joyous, fast and bold and today and fun! It was just wild energy. At the other end, we immediately delved into the subject with ‘Jodhaa Akbar’, which is so detailed, so researched and yet so pure, so spontaneous and innocent."
Ash and Hrithik shared good screen chemistry in ‘Dhoom 2’. And in ‘Jodhaa Akbar’, the vibes were just as good.
"Hrithik and I became friends on the sets of Dhoom because we were all part of a team working in the movie. Hrithik and (my husband) Abhishek grew up together. They were childhood friends and I instantly became a part of the team.
"The energy that we share, the comfort level that we share; I think that is what translates into chemistry on screen."
Talking about her swashbuckling, sword-fighting scene, Ash said she had not undergone any formal training.
"The Hollywood film The Last Legion was my first experience of sword-fighting and I took to it instantly. But even here, there was no time for any kind of formal training. We did it right there on the sets."
Producer moves court against 'Jodhaa Akbar' ban in Madhya Pradesh
.
UTV Motion Pictures Saturday moved the Madhya Pradesh High Court to lift the ban on screening of "Jodhaa Akbar" in the state.
"The hearing is Monday. If nothing happens there, then we will move Supreme Court. We won't let this happen," Siddharth Roy Kapoor, marketing and distribution head of UTV Motion Pictures, told IANS on phone from Mumbai. The company has produced the movie.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Madhya Pradesh Friday suspended the screening of "Jodhaa Akbar", a week after the movie was released, fearing that it would cause a law and order problem in the state as a particular community was against the film's content.
People belonging to the Kshatriya (Rajput) community have been protesting against the movie that they claim has distorted historical facts. They have said that the film portrays Mughal emperor Akbar's wife Jodha Bai as a Kshatriya, though she was not one.
"We are appalled that the film has been banned in Madhya Pradesh. The Censor Board cleared the movie without any cuts. When a film is cleared by the Censor Board, the state should ensure that the film is screened across the country without disruption," Kapoor said.
The entire film industry, including producers, distributors and exhibitors are up in arms against the state government order. In fact, the exhibitors' association in Madhya Pradesh has threatened to go on an indefinite strike if the ruling is not reversed.
"The distributors feel that it is one of the biggest releases of the year and they should be allowed to screen the movie," Kapoor said.
Asked about the ban in Rajasthan, Kapoor said: "We are talking to groups who are against the film. However, in Rajasthan, the state government hasn't issued any whip against the film. The film's distributors have decided not to screen it because they fear that if they do so, protesters will torch their halls. And they are justified in their action."
The three-hour, 20-minute movie was released in 26 countries Feb 15, but banned in Rajasthan. The Karni Sena has been spearheading a campaign in the state against the movie for quite sometime.
The community alleged that Ashutosh Gowariker presented Jodha Bai as Mughal emperor Jalaluddin Akbar's wife, which is factually incorrect.
According to them, Jodha Bai was not the daughter of Raja Bharmal of Amber as shown in the film, but the daughter of Motaraja Udai Singh of Marwar. And she was married to Akbar's son Salim alias Jehangir and was the mother of emperor Shah Jahan.
However, Gowariker claimed that he was careful in preserving Rajput pride and dignity while making the period drama starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai.
"I haven't been jingoistic or fanciful in depicting history. In fact, I've been very careful in preserving Rajput pride and dignity. There's a disclaimer about the Rajput queen's name at the beginning of the film and to see that, the protestors have to see the movie," he said.
Gowariker's epic love story saw a fair opening and grossed Rs.385 million worldwide in the opening weekend. The critics praised Hrtihik and Aishwarya's performance in the film.
Wanted: New reel queens
When we go number crunching for Bollywood beauties, it’s tough to figure out who’s really reign woman of the present and future.
Marriage has mellowed Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s screen image and the good bahu is reportedly planning a family in 2009, Rani Mukerji, the official queen bee of the box-office has had two major debacles (Ta Ra Rum Pum and Laaga Chunari Mein Daag) and possible marriage.
With Preity Zinta opting for ‘off-beat’ films and cricket (she’s bought the Chandigarh team for Indian Premier League), Bipasha Basu’s career on a yo-yo mode and Kareena Kapoor looking committed to a new love and acting pricey too, is there a second lot of heiresses in this numbers game? more

It may have evoked a mixed response from film critics but the sweet tale of romance between Mughal Emperor Akbar and his Rajput Queen Jodhabai in the Aishwarya Rai – Hrithik Roshan starrer Jodhaa Akbar seems to have cast its spell on cinegoers in India as well as abroad.

Aishwarya Rai denies playing Jhansi Ki Rani
The gorgeous Aishwarya Rai Bachchan denies playing the role of Jhansi in Ketan Mehta ’s ‘Jhansi Ki Rani’.
A report says that Ash has walked out of the movie because she is tired of playing mythological characters.
But Ash says she had never signed any such project and the media has mistaken her playing the role of Jhansi as she was practicing horse riding and sword fighting for Jodhaa Akbar and not for Jhansi Ki Rani.
Ash is said to be furious over the false reports by the media and asks them to stop giving wrong information.
She clarifies that Ketan Mehta discussed with her about the film two years back but there has been no any verbal or written commitment.
Ash even declares that she is not at all keen in doing the film and looking forward to Sarkar Raj , 'Taj Mahal' and her Hollywood project 'Pink Panther 2'.
Amitabh lauds Hrithik's trance dance in Jodhaa Akbar
The compliments haven't stopped pouring in for Hrithik Roshan since Jodhaa Akbar hit the theatres. The latest addition to the list of people who have praised him is Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan.
On seeing Hrithik's enchanting trance dance during the qawwalli Khwaja mere khwaja the Big B observed that not since Stanley Kubrick's legendary sci-fi "2001: A Space Odyssey" in 1968 had there been such an apocalyptic moment in a film.
"That compliment just blew my mind," Hrithik told IANS. "Doing Jodhaa Akbar wasn't easy for me. That dance in a trance was especially difficult. When Ashutosh Gowariker explained the situation, I just didn't know how to go about it.
"In that moment of spiritual ecstasy what does my character experience? I was completely puzzled. Then I was told that it was moment when Akbar connects with divinity.
"I joined the singers to dance with one hand pointing towards heaven, which was receiving the divine gift, while my other hand pointed to the ground, which meant I was connecting the gift received from divinity to people down below. I was the medium, the recipient of divine communication," he said.
Hrithik is paired with Aishwarya Rai in this historical romance that focuses on the relationship between Mughal emperor Jalaluddin Akbar and his wife Jodha Bai.

Ash to reveal her intimate secrets?

We hear that Ash is all set to write her biography with the help of her morther, Vrinda Rai, who is a writer too.
While Aishwarya's business manager, Hari Singh, remained non-commital about the veracity of facts but he didn't reject the news either.
"Time and again, she has been approached by many authors and publishing houses. But Ash never considered the same, considering her shooting commitments. Aishwarya is definitely not interested in commissioning her biography to anyone. She wants to pen it herself," says Hari Singh.
"She writes personal notes on the daily basis. Considering her career graph, the idea of a biography makes absolute sense," he adds.
So is she planning to take a long sabbatical from showbiz, just like her mother in law?
Well it seems so, as she has has decided not to be a part of Ketan Mehta's magnum opus Jhansi Ki Rani.
Tells Ash, “Ketan spoke to me nearly two years back when he was very keen on making this film with me. But thereafter, he has not been in touch with me and I don’t think that as of now I am working in Jhansi Ki Rani.
At the moment, Ash is only looking forward to her Hollywood film Pink Panther and Ram Gopal Varma’s Sarkar Raj.

Valentine's Day didn't turn out the way Bollywood's most romantic couple had planned.
Aishwarya Rai had hoped to have her husband Abhishek by her side for the lavish premiere of Jodhaa-Akbar. He arrived at the tail-end of the event on Thursday night.
Eyebrows were raised and the hush-hush whispers started when the Queen of the evening showed up with her in- laws Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan. But no Abhishek.
Relax! It was only a delayed flight. Abhishek arrived in Mumbai almost at midnight. All Valentinian plans laid to rest.
Aishwarya is as usual uncomplaining. "What a wonderful Valentine's gift. Everyone who has seen Jodhaa-Akbar so far feels it's the perfect love story. And it doesn't really matter if Abhishek couldn't make it. For us every day is Valentine's Day. Every time we're together it's Valentine's Day."
She admits find time to spend together is a problem.
"His schedules are grueling and so are mine. We're trying to spend as much time together as possible.Whenever I've time off I join him wherever he's shooting. I've been in Jaipur where he's been shooting in the last few months. We make time.
We find time for one another. We need to be happy with whatever is available. Just how happy or unhappy we make the situation is entirely in our hands."
For the Delhi premiere of Jodhaa-Akbar on Friday, Abhishek was right there by his wife's side, before flying back to Jaipur to join Rakeysh Mehra's Dilli 6 unit.
In Delhi Abhishek, Aishwarya and Hrithik were an inseparable threesome, laughing joking and enjoying the success of the venture, and never mind if Abhishek was only a vicarious participant in this lavish venture.

Hrithik brawn seduces women

Hrithik can't stop smiling.
"Dad completely floored me. He has never complimented me in my face.
Whatever his opinion of my performance he never expressed it openly so far. It was always understand between us that he appreciated my performances.
But this is the first time he has come out so openly to support my performance. I'm overwhelmed," said Hrithik from Delhi after attending the premiere.
The response to the film and to his performance has so far stunned Hrithik. "People are saying such wonderful things. We wanted to make Akbar relatable to today's generation, and that's how he has turned out to be."
Speaking of how female fans have responded to his sinewy show of muscle power in the sword-practising sequence Hrithik laughs, "Why shouln't a woman in those Mughal times be shown deriving voyeuristic pleasure watching her husband exercizing?
The idea was to make Akbar a timeless creation. I was apprehensive about reactions. But it all turned out fine, finally. Thank God for that. The reviews have been very kind.. We were lucky, I guess."

Aishwarya Rai to write an autobiography
Bollywood stunner Aishwarya Rai might tell her life story through a book.
Life has been a roller coaster ride for Aishwarya Rai ever since her fortunes were turned around with her winning of Miss World tiara in . After that the doe-eyed beauty carved a niche for herself in Hindi film industry, and went through many personal upheavals before finding the man of her dreams in hubby Abhishek Bachchan .
It is a life worth documenting and many authors and publishing houses have been approaching Aishwarya repeatedly with offers of doing a book on her life.
So far Ash hasn’t given her nod to anyone.
Ash’s manager Hari Singh has told a Mumbai tabloid that Ash might write her biography instead of giving the job to someone else.
Singh says Ash has been fond of making notes about events in her life in a personal diary. There is a possibility that the material in this diary might one day be given the shape of an autobiographical book.
Reports go on to suggest that Ash might take the help of her writer mother Vrinda Rai in this authorial venture of hers.

If Ash plays Yashodhara...
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, after playing Mumtaz for Sir Ben Kingsley’s Taj Mahal, might just do the role of Yashodhara — wife of Siddharth, known to the world as Lord Gautama Buddha, in an NRI’s film.
Pan Nalin, who made the critically acclaimed Valley Of Flowers starring Milind Soman and his French wife Mylène Jampanoï, has reportedly been assured by Ash that she is keen to do the role.
“It’s a multi-billion dollar project and I’m backed by Oscar winning producer Barnet Bian and one of India’s top business houses which is getting into film production with this project. Aishwarya is just perfect for the role,” says Pan who is in Mumbai to convince the Bachchan bahu to do his film.
Ash apparently heard the story and asked Pan various technical questions and other logistics about the project. She wanted to see his earlier film and promised to get back to him. The highpoint of the meeting was when Ash is said to have asked Pan who will play Gautama Budha. The filmmaker says, “I replied ‘Abhishek Bachchan, isn’t he perfect for the role?’ Ash was zapped and told me to get in touch with her husband who is in Jaipur. My only concern is that Abhishek will have to shave off his head.”
Pan is aware that a couple of films on Buddha are already in the pipeline with Shekhar Kapoor and Shyam Benegal expressing interest in making them. “But my film will be different, it will be told from the point of Gautam Buddha’s wife, Yashodhara,” says the undeterred producer.
