This Friday's only new release in going to be Abbas-Mustan's much awaited RACE. Produced by Tips Films and starring Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Bipasha Basu, Katrina Kaif and Sameera Reddy, the 35 crore RACE is all set to take a big start at the ticket window.

The curiosity and hype for the film is immense. And that due to Pritam's catchy and very popular compositions, brilliant publicity via slick promos and very timely tie-ups with channels and events, all of which deserve praise. Added to that the three day Holi/Good Friday weekend in most parts of India and a four day weekend in Bombay (Shivaji Jayanti on 24th April), will assure a huge and sustained start to the week. To cash in on the hype further, producer Ramesh Taurani of Tips plans to go in for a huge number of 700 plus prints release in India.

Last Friday's 26TH JULY AT BARISTA turned out to be an apology of a film, and with a horrifyingly poor opening start across the board, the film will sink at the box-office without a trace.

Moving on to Subhash Ghai's Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah and Anurag Sinha starrer, BLACK & WHITE, the film faired badly at the box-office, despite good reviews in the media. But all is not lost as the makers are still hopeful that the tax-exemptions (already in Delhi and Maharashtra) may just about help the 7-8 crore film get to safety. During the week BLACK & WHITE collected 76 lakhs from Bombay, 17 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 2 lakhs from Rajkot, 1.15 lakhs from Jamnagar, 1 lakh (gross) from Bhavnagar, 1.60 lakhs from Nasik, 50 lakhs from Delhi city, 7.75 lakhs from Noida, 5.50 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 4.50 lakhs from Lucknow, 7.15 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.10 lakhs from Faridabad, 2.85 lakhs from Nagpur, 2.25 lakhs from Indore, 7.70 lakhs from Jaipur and 10 lakhs from Hyderabad. During its opening week BLACK & WHITE netted an ordinary 3.70 crores from India, and that is not good news for the film because the coming Friday will see it facing the RACE blast. BLACK & WHITE has also been rejected in the Overseas, grossing a poor $88,627 from the UK.

The only major success of the year so far, Ashutosh Gowariker's Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer, JODHAA AKBAR, has another stable week to show. Once again the collections fell by less than fifty percent, as compared to the previous week. The film collected 1 crore from Bombay, 25 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 4.60 lakhs from Rajkot, 1.85 lakhs from Jamangar, 3 lakhs from Nasik, 1.95 lakhs from Goa, 60 lakhs (approx.) from Delhi city, 9.10 lakhs from Noida, 6.40 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 9.50 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.55 lakhs from Agra, 1 lakh from Bareilly, 1.40 lakhs from Aligarh, 9.20 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.30 lakhs from Guwahati, 1.15 lakhs in Amravati, 9 lakhs from Indore, 5.15 lakhs from Nagpur and 21 lakhs from Hyderabad. With another 5.60 crores, JODHAA AKBAR has so far netted around 53.60 crores from India. The UTV venture is now entering the hit zone (Superhit in Bombay and Nizam, hit in Delhi-U.P.) in India. JODHAA AKBAR is already a blockbuster in the Overseas, grossing an extra ordinary $3,336,296 from the US and an excellent $1,964,240 from the UK.

Meanwhile Rajat Kapoor's MITHYA manages another decent week. The film collected 2 lakhs (approx.) from Bombay, 4.60 lakhs from Delhi city, 1.10 lakhs from Noida and 1 lakh each from Ghaziabad and Gurgaon. Adding another 20-22 lakhs, MITHYA manages to just about touch the magical 5 crore figure from India. And that makes MITHYA an above average fare from India, based on its associated distribution costs. A very creditable performance indeed, one has to admit!

Our last entry of the day is Aamir Khan's directorial debut venture, TAARE ZAMEEN PAR. The film has another decent week to show. During the week, TAARE ZAMEEN PAR collected 4.60 lakhs from Bombay, 2.20 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 4 lakhs from Delhi city, 1 lakh each (approx.) from Ghaziabad & Gurgaon and 2.10 lakhs from Nagpur. Netting another 25 lakhs, TAARE ZAMEEN PAR goes past the 60.50 crore figure from India. The Darsheel, Aamir and Tisca starrer is a blockbuster in India and is also a hit in the Overseas, with US being quite good.
